Clinical Reflexology
£40 for 60 minute treatment

Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the feet which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts of the body. Reflexology works on an individual basis and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension.

During a typical reflexology session the reflexologist will take a detailed medical history. Sessions are performed in a comfortable reclining chair or couch. The client will be asked to remove footwear and socks. The practitioner will make a visual and tactile examination of the area to be worked before beginning the precise reflexology massage movements. The particular types of movements involved require the application of an appropriate pressure using the thumb and fingers.

Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures.

The therapist's expert touch will help you relax which can help improve mood, aid sleep and relieve tension. The result is an overall sense of wellbeing.

A series of regular treatments is generally recommended. The experience of receiving a reflexology treatment is that it is very restful and enjoyable. Clients have commented that they sleep better, and feel clearer headed and refreshed in the days following the treatment.

Ayurvedic Reflexology
£40 for 60 minute treatment

This is a treatment which fuses reflexology with a traditional Indian foot massage. The foot massage or padabhyanga (pada=foot and abhyanga=massage) is a soothing, calming, revitalizing and balancing part of the traditional ancient Ayurvedic health care modality.

The treatment involves three components:

  • Massage
  • A Kasa bowl (small metal bowl made of copper, zinc and tin)
  • Marma points (Ayurvedic energy or pressure points in the legs and feet - there are five in this area of the body)

The treatment begins with cleansing the feet, followed by a relaxing massage of the feet and calves using warm sesame oil, helping the feet and lower legs to relax. Sesame oil is used as it is a powerful antioxidant which is used to nourish the skin as it is easily absorbed.

Next the warmed kasa bowl is used in circular movements on the feet and lower legs, before gentle pressure is applied to the marma points on the feet and lower legs in order to rebalance the body's energy.

Within Ayurveda, practitioners use the padabhyanga to calm the mind and nervous system, to promote quality sleep and to help circulation. It is a truly relaxing and calming treatment.

Maternity Reflexology
£40 for 60 minute treatment

Maternity Reflexology is aimed specifically at women during pregnancy, labour and the post-natal period.

Pregnancy and preparing for labour

I have many years of experience in treating pregnant ladies, and now teach these skills to other reflexologists. I know exactly how to safely offer reflexology at any point during your pregnancy, including during the first trimester. There are a few pregnancy related conditions during which it is not wise to have reflexology. Please mention any issues or concerns to me when you contact me, and I will be happy to advise on whether reflexology is suitable for you.

A reflexology treatment during pregnancy allows time for you to relax and put your feet up. Your body is going through many changes, physically, hormonally and emotionally, and reflexology will support you at every stage of your pregnancy, offering you a sense of calm, relaxation and usually an improvement in your sleeping.

Whilst it is not clinically proven, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence from women who feel they have benefitted from reflexology throughout their pregnancy and from those who have turned to reflexology once their baby has past their due date. You may like to check out some of the reviews I have received from past clients.

Preparation for labour

As your due date approaches, a few sessions of reflexology are a helpful way of promoting relaxation at a time of natural anxiety and anticipation.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)
£40 for 60 minute treatment

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women in the UK, and following medical intervention 20% of breast cancer patients experience lymphoedema of the arm. Lymphoedema is tissue swelling due to the failure of lymph drainage. As well as physical discomfort, this also causes psychological distress for sufferers.

In 2011, the results of an exploratory research study at Cardiff Metropolitan University, found that treatment with a new reflexology technique known as Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD), (undertaken on the feet of participants), resulted in a statistically significant reduction in arm volume. A larger study on RLD is currently being undertaken, and is due to be completed in 2014, but findings from this exploratory study indicate that RLD may be helpful in the management of secondary lymphoedema.

Here is a video of Sally Kay introducing her RLD technique.

Facial Reflexology
£40 for 60 minute treatment

Carolyn offers two different facial reflexology treatments: Ayurvedic Facial Reflexology, and Crystal Face Reflexology

Work on the face releases tension from the facial muscles and connective tissue, helping to smooth out expression lines and improve the circulation of blood and lymph.

The treatments involve working over the scalp, neck and ears as well as the face. Please be aware that a little sesame oil is used in the treatment.

Ayurvedic treatment

Within the ayurvedic treatment a bronze kasa wand is used. They are traditionally used on Ayurvedic massage to remove excess heat and toxins and to reinforce the beneficial effects of massage strokes and marma work.

Crystal treatment

In the crystal treatment various crystals are used including crystal wands. The aim of each treatment is to provide complete relaxation so that the body’s natural healing and rejuvenating powers can come into play.

Aromatherapy training

£40 for 60 minute treatment

"Reiki" (ray-key) is Japanese for 'universal life energy', a term used to describe a natural system to help bring about an improved sense of wellbeing and a positive feeling of spiritual renewal. This tradition was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system and benefits may include deep relaxation and the promotion of a calm peaceful sense of wellbeing.

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is simple. The recipient remains clothed and comfortably lies on a couch or sits on a chair. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively, on or near the body using their intuition and training as a guide. There is no massage or manipulation. Reiki can be used on the person as a whole, or on specific parts of the body. It is also possible to receive Reiki at a distance.

Reiki is taught by Reiki Master/Teachers, who have trained in the tradition passed on, in person, from Master to student. Students go through a process of initiation/attunement to the Reiki energy. They are then able to treat themselves and others, not only from a personal and emotional perspective, but also as an aid to individual development and spiritual growth.

Carolyn offers one hour reiki treatments from her treatment room in Childer Thornton. Your reiki treatment will incorporate the use of crystals placed on or around your body, unless you would prefer that these are left out. Reiki treatments are deeply relaxing and calming.
